Here is a real treat! It's rare to find a doll from the 1940's in such great condition especially the composition dolls. This doll was made by the Effanbee Doll Company around the 1940's and was made after the main character in the book by Lucy Maud Montgomery's "Anne of Green Gables". The doll was made in various sizes from 9" all the way up to 28". Our Anne Shirley here stands 15 inches tall. This was one of the first dolls that had fingers that were separated. This was because during this time period women's gloves were popular and the doll could be dressed up with fancy gowns with the traditional gloves for partying. This beautiful doll is all composition, jointed at neck, shoulders and hips with Dewees Cochran hands. This is a walker doll and her stringing is tight and firm. Her original blond human hair wig is full and in very good condition. Anne Shirley has blue sleep eyes with full upper lashes. Very good facial and lip color. On the back of her body she is marked EFFANBEE / ANNE SHIRLEY. Her composition body is in excellent condition with barely any crazing just a few minute lines. Her skin tone is even and she has all her fingers. Her blush is still in place above the knees. Some of the doll companies likes to add the blush on the legs to give the dolls a more realistic look. She is wearing her original dress, slip, and white rayon socks. We don't know if the straw hat is original but it does certainly add to her look. We have also added some vintage style shoes to finish off her look. Remember that with composition dolls they must be protected from extreme temperatures or sudden temperature changes. This precious doll has definitely been well take care of and loved. It's wonderful how some of these precious dolls have held up through the many, many years. Much better then some of us!
